I do not think these statements contradict each other. As for question #1, I do think it is a sin to "be" something.
i.e. it is not a sin for a rat to "be" a , regardless of whether or not you like rats. I do not.
Regarding "being" a homosexual. This is a label created and given or taken by people. God did not "make" people in certain ways just so that they could have labels. Otherwise, we would all have bar codes on the backs of our necks and be sorted into groups when we were born.
Even with all the genetic testing done, genome research, all that stuff, scientists still do not have any clue as to what gene does what. They have an idea that certain genes do something, but they do not know for sure. (see last week's article in newsweek about "myth" science)
Scientists have even less idea as to WHY certain people have different characteristics.
So - there is no sin in "being something" as a person, because, at the end of the day, you are a person.
I think the sin lies in labelling yourself and then trying to "get" something in return for your label.
If you label yourself homosexual, and then try to excuse yourself from the rules, that is the sin.
Regarding point #2. I don't know if it is a sin. I have heard people tell me that in the bible it says this, but I don't know for sure. I also don't plan on looking it up any time soon, because I don't believe it is up to me to be judging anyone. People have the right to live anyway they want. How do I know that how I live is proper? What right do I have to judge.
