Opinion Poll

How many Christians do you know who you would describe as being, “peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others?” James 3:17

  1. Not many. I shared that verse in one of my recent posts as well. I like how in the ESV it says that this wisdom from above is open to reason. Most Christians aren't. They just think they're right, end of story.

  2. Was Jesus always “peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others?”

  3. I don't know much about Elvis. To be honest, I have a hard time definitively working through when it's time to dig in your heels to take a stand and when it's time to yield.
There are many things I can't waver on - the deity of Christ, Him being the only sacrifice for sins, me NOT having sex with you. I can stand on those and I can point to scripture to clearly establish it. (In my mind anyway)
But I seldom know when it's time to bring the whip to church. Maybe the resource center at Faith needs to be overturned.

  4. Jas 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Careful reading shows that wisdom, and not any person, has the attributes you're asking about.

It is not wise for a person to always have these attributes, but the wisdom you hold should be everything described in the context of this verse.

  5. Hi Travis! In what context are believers known to possess and demonstrate that kind of wisdom? I'm stumped.

  6. Or, does being a beleiver allow you to be "peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others"?

Is that the message? The strength of faith and conviction, a person does not have to jump up and fight the first time they are challenged?
